Loyola Marymount University offers a variety of foods between all of the on campus cafeterias and vendors. For now, I will be covering the largest and most populated cafeteria on campus: The Lair Marketplace.

Location

The Lair is located near the freshman dorms next to the Foley building. If you are a freshman this will become your main source of food. The convenience of its location allows you to walk to and from the lair in only a couple of minutes. Bring a few friends if you get bored during the walk. If you can't handle the walk then don't eat. For non-freshman students at LMU, many of your classes will be in buildings that neighbor the Lair Marketplace, such as Saint Rob's.

Pricing

The prices range at the lair depending on what you want to eat. Overall, the prices are much higher than those of similar quality food from a local grocery store. Your best bet is to get to Ralph's grocery store and scoop up some snacks for your dorm. This snack stocking will prevent you from over-spending at the Lair. You should be good spending $15/day at the Lair. After that you mind want to calm down a bit, you ain't gonna starve.

Choices

Loyola Marymount University offers you have plenty of food choices at the Lair Marketplace. Below I have listed some information on each section:

Grill 155
This is your #1 place for cheeseburgers, chicken tenders, french fries, and chicken patties. Simply write your name down on an easy-to-fill-out order sheet and you'll have your meal within minutes. Can't handle the wait? Take a walk around and grab your drink and some side dishes in the meantime. It's not the end of the world.
Ultimate Baja
Tacos, burritos, and quesadillas! Ultimate Baja has you covered when it comes to great Mexican food.
La Cucina
Great Pizza, pasta, and calzones. Grab a fresh slice waiting for you or place an order. I recommend the tortellini alfredo.
Far East Fusion
This place cooks smokin' hot Asian food right in front of your eyes! Customize your dish to the perfect liking. Add rice and sauce at the end. Personal note: do not eat this food too frequently...you will get sick of it FAST!
Malone Market
The closest thing to a home-cooked meal on LMU campus. Here you have roasted chicken, corn, potatoes, and vegetables. Take advantage of the meatloaf days. Also, their roast beef with gravy is a great time.
Marketplace Cafe & Deli
Come here for a sub par sandwich. Personally, it's nothing special. I would rather go out and get a much better tasting meal from Subway for the same price, if not cheaper.

Social Networking as an LMU Freshman

Most of us like to meet new people. Social networking is key to succeeding in business. After all, the main point of going to college is so we can get out an make some money! Therefore, your best bet is to get to know your peers.

Meeting new people at Loyola Marymount University is easy. The freshman dorms are divided into two main sections. Each section has individual dorm halls which you will share with your peers.

Study Rooms

Each dorm hall has a few of these. They are great for studying of course, but they also serve as a social playground with tables and chairs. Bring your laptops, backpacks, a deck of cards, you name it!

Groups & Clubs

Feel free to join any of the groups and clubs on campus. There's a great variety so you'll find something you like. If not, feel free to create your own. Name your favorite hobby. I'll bet you aren't the only one with this interest.

Other than that...

...you will find it extremely easy to relate to fellow peers in class, in the cafeterias, and even just walking around. Trust me, with weather like this you won't be the only one out doors!

The Start to a Four Year Journey

Let's fast forward a bit and assume you've been accepted to Loyola Marymount University. What's the first step? Orientation.

Orientation is your first live social networking tool. It offers an easy way to meet other incoming freshman at LMU. The program will separate the students into categories based on school and major. For example, if you are looking to be a communications major, the orientation advisors will direct you to a group with other communication majors. This grouping makes it easy for you to find people with similar interests. You may feel uncomfortable at first, but you will get used to it. This feeling of social adaptation will become second nature by the time you graduate.

Your orientation advisor will give you detailed information about the classes that pertain to your major. They will tell you what your core requirements are as well as your specialized classes. These guys were a great help for me. Let's hope they are the same for you.

There are two types of orientation: Pre-semester and semester-start. I have broken each one down below:

Pre-semester:

This type of orientation occurs during the summer or late spring before the semester you are enrolled. This program gives you the chance to sample the school as well as get a taste for the dorm experience.

Semester-start:

This orientation happens just a few days before your first day of classes. It is convenient for those who come from far away and those who get accepted late. I went to this orientation.

Ultimately, orientation is a great tool for you to get acquainted with peers at Loyola Marymount University. You will learn names and faces of people you will encounter for the next four years of your life.

The Concept

Hello. Welcome to my blog. I decided to create this site when sitting on the bluff one day on Loyola Marymount University's campus. What's the bluff you ask? Don't worry about it. I will cover its purposes, features, and overall beauty in future posts. For now, allow me to introduce you to the purposes of Loyola Marymount University: A Student's View.

Purposes:

1. To inform prospect students and their families about the many benefits of LMU.

2. To provide a place for current students as well as alumni to comment on my posts. Remember, backup is key!

3. To Reflect on my experience at this school and how its impact has changed my life
